Parents and Education

The good old proverb, which says ‘children are the leaders of tomorrow” is in fact an undisputable reality and should not be disregarded. Accordingly, children’s education should be taken seriously and parents should not leave it up to educational institutions only.

Educational institutions tried their best, however the individual responsibilities lie on the guardians, as they are suppose to provide the kid a head start in life than what is being taught in schools.

Schools are being led by expert teachers and they can only execute within the order of their professional morals. For instance if a kid lagged behind in any subject, it is the duty of the educational institution to ensure that the child is capable of dealing with the subject based on the instructor’s know-how and the school’s approved standard of effectual tutoring, anything that falls out this could be considered deprived recital.

So, it is important that parents should come forward and do something to ensure that the kid is able to meet up and pass any of the complicated subjects – but not going to the educational institution and be distressing the guiltless teachers. Parents can assist the educational institutions by cheering the kid to attend extra classes outside of school hours, with the objectives of aiding to enhance the school attempts in the child’s education.

One would be unwise to envisage that the system of education meets up the needs of every kid that gets into at the tender age of five or six and leaves after thirteen years. But, some parents really think that the educational institutions are entirely accountable for the education of their kids. Parents who trust this may be placing their kids at a drawback.

Improving Parent/Teacher Communication

One area that most teachers can improve on is parent/teacher communication. Although not all of the responsibility falls to the teacher, most times it is up to the teacher to initiate communication when there is an issue in the classroom with a student. It is also important to continue communicating with parents when things are going great with children too.

Some methods of improving communication with parents could be setting up a classroom website where parents and teachers can have a private message board where information can be sent back and forth from parent to teacher. In a situation where a child may be having a particularly difficult time, it might be necessary for a teacher to send a letter or email to a parent or make a phone call. Most parents want and need this communication and may not realize there is an issue in school without hearing directly from the teacher.

Besides just the initial attempt at communication it is necessary at times to follow up with a second attempt. In the event that parent and teacher have made contact with each other and the issue has been resolved it is then important for the teacher to follow up with the parent to inform them of the progress of the student. Yes, this can be time consuming but keeping parents in the loop of what is happening with your students can make the difference in the success of your students and may prevent further issues in the future. Most parents want and welcome open communication between themselves and their children’s teachers.

Becoming a great communicator whether it is just by keeping up a good website with classroom information, assignments, and student grades or communicating directly with parents when needed can greatly increase your effectiveness as a teacher and having a successful classroom experience.

Parent Communication

If school was a breeze for you, it doesn’t mean that teaching is necessarily going to be easy. There are many responsibilities you have outside of the classroom. You have responsibilities along with the trouble calming your class down and being able to help them learn the best that they can. One of the best ways to improve students’ attitude is the ability to communicate well with their parents.

Communicating well with students’ parents will help the child indirectly. If you are able to let the parents know how their son or daughter is doing in school, they will be able to talk to them in their own home and either praise them or help them to become better students.

Set up an email list at the beginning of the school year so that you are able to email each student’s parent’s whenever necessary. Once you have the emails, send out newsletters every few weeks so that the parents know what you’re doing in class. You will also then have means of contact if there is any issue in which you and a student’s parents need to meet.

Be available for parent teacher conferences. Most parents want to hear from each of their child’s teachers and they want to know if and why their child is misbehaving or not doing well in that class.

On report cards, write a small comment on each child’s report so that every parent can see what you have to say about their child. A simple, “Keep up the good work!” will let the parents know their child is doing well in that class.

There are many things that you can do to improve parent teacher communication. The better you can communicate with the parents, the more effect it will have on the child. There is no need to contact parents every week; perhaps, try to contact them once every month or two, or whenever a problem arises.

Communication Between Teachers and Parents

There are many careers in which you need good communication to be good at them. Being a teacher is one of them. Not only do you need good communication with your students, but you need to be able to communicate well with other members of the staff and your students’ parents. Being able to communicate well with parents is very important, and if you are able to it will help your students out as well.

There are some parents that don’t care how their child does in school, but the vast majority does. Try to find ways to let parents know how their child is doing in your class whether they are extremely bright, or don’t put forth any effort.

One of the best ways to be able to communicate with every student’s parents is to create a group email. Toward the beginning of the class have your students or the parents themselves give you their email. You can then send out newsletters periodically, and you have each parent’s email if you need to speak to them privately about a student.

Try to inform parents about their children’s grades several weeks before the semester ends. This way, the parents can talk to their child about their grade and if they need to work a little harder to boost the grade up. They also won’t be as surprised when the end of the semester comes and will appreciate the effort you put forth to be so helpful and informative.

Be available for parent teacher conferences. Even if someone’s child isn’t having problems in class, some parents come to see how their children are doing, whether it’s bad or good, and see what you have to say about them. A lot of parents like to talk to each teacher their child has so they can see how they’re doing in each subject. If you aren’t available they won’t see what their child is accomplishing in that subject.
